The one and only cleaning tip I know I learned from Debby Boone.
Seriously, for real.
I confess, I have never actually met her, but I felt like I did back in 1982 when I read her book,“Debby Boone, My Life So Far.” (Yes, I know…I’m old.)
One — She honored her mom and dad and really listened to their advice.
Two — During her courtship she conducted herself with grace.
Three (The one that changed my life) — She knew how to clean a bathroom sink!
One summer, while attending and working at YWAM, a several month long discipleship training, she found cleaning sinks and bathtubs to be incredibly frustrating — she just couldn’t get all those stray, pesky hairs to pick up. (You know…the ones that cling to damp porcelain.) The cloth she was using just sailed right over them. She tried picking them up and discarding by hand but that was yukky. (I agree!)
Finally, someone shared this tip: Dampen a few sheets of facial tissue with water, run it over the surface of the tub or sink, and those hairs will cling and pick right up.
She tried it and it worked!
I filed it away for future reference.
Eventually, on a rare cleaning day near the holidays that year, I tried it. Low and behold…IT WORKED FOR ME TOO!!!
Since that day I have never faltered in my ability to clean out a bathroom sink or tub. (Although I have faltered in ACTUALLY cleaning them out.) It was a great tip.
Thanks Debby!
What is your oldest cleaning tip? You know, the one you never change that you have used for years.
Carol says
Wetting your hand and running it over furniture (the fabric part, that is) is the BEST way to remove cat hair. Trust me on this one …. 🙂

Eee-ooo! Carol! I’ll have to try that if I ever get another cat.
Sheri says
I thought of two that my Mom taught me: 1) Clean the dishes AS you cook, so you don’t have a sink-ful when dinner is over, and 2) Clean a little bit each day, and then it all stays relatively clean most of the time.
Claudine Henry says
Good ones Sheri. I do the first (most of the time) but the second…not so good.
