We started a house remodel over three years ago.
It was supposed to only last eight months. (We laugh about that now.) I shared a bit about it here.
This week I ran across some photos that made me smile. They were from one of my happiest remodel moments…the day the new wood floors were being put in.
If you know me, or have been reading my blog, you know that I have a ministry with a focus on prayer. To me, praying for people is as natural as breathing.
So it was probably no surprise that the night before the floors were to go in I couldn’t sleep. I had just returned from a prayer conference that afternoon and my heart was full. On top of that, I was excited about the install. I had selected a slightly different flooring and was hoping that what I envisioned in my head would look as good when it was actually on the floor. (I’ll show you my floors in another post.)
During the hours I was awake, I found myself praying for friends, praying for the workers in my home and praying for the people who might live here when we are gone.
It was a sweet time.
The next morning, grabbing a dry erase marker, I scribbled a few Scriptures on the concrete. It was my way of preserving the memory of those prayers. I knew that no one would see them, but I would know they were there. (Well, now you know too!)
The floor guys had to wait as I finished. They weren’t really sure what I was doing or why I was doing it.
But I knew.
I was writing a blessing on concrete about what I desired most — for our house to be a place of welcome and hope. For everyone who entered the door to sense that love is spoken and Jesus is real. And, for prayer to be as natural as good conversation.
Hopefully (if we ever finish this remodel), it will be all those things — not only for our family, but for all the families that follow.

I love that you wrote those scriptures on the concrete. Reminds me what God instructed his people to do in the olden days, write these words on your hearts, doorposts, & yeah them to your children & your children’s children.

I LOVE that! We are saving up to do the same… hopefully not more than 3 months! I am going to copy your idea! I LOVE IT! Thanks for sharing your heart!
